What Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag Did WellĪssassin’s Creed Black Flag is an astounding game that has some of the most satisfying naval combat in any game. If there were factions or some RPG elements with epic fleshed out quest or storylines, this pirate game would have been probably one of the best out there today. You can imagine this game as a GTA where the only thing you’re really able to do is just hijack cars and shoot out of them. Some players try to chase by ship which is tiring and honestly a waste of time, and if you do manage to take a player’s ship there is either no loot or barely any reward you can take. Most players just attack you for no reason (usually due to the fact that they are trying to find some enjoyment out of the game), and other player ships in general are quite hard to come by. It might be fun the first three times, but soon you realize that you’d rather not do those kind of missions since they are so bland and boring. This is mostly at the fault of every quest being a generic fetch and get your reward type of quest. What Sea of Thieves Didn’t Do So WellĪlthough the game mechanics are there, the game unfortunately doesn’t give you much to do at all. The first person combat is also fluid and nice. From there, little actions such as adjusting the angle of your sails, or how much sail you let down will dictate your direction and speed. If you captain a ship, you will have to rely on your crew (who are online friends or players) to help you navigate the ship and report wind direction. Sea of Thieves looks like an incredible pirate game given the awesome ocean wave mechanics you see in game, as well as the overall physics. That being said, let’s look into some of the more ambitious pirate games previously listed and see both their successes and failures. All you do is fire a cannon, shoot a flint lock, and maybe stab a few players if you’re lucky to stay alive for that long. This mainly happens because they are just generic combat servers where each battle feels just like the last one.
